At ten months old, she has already learned how to make an ordinary car ride feel like a family story. She leaned into her seat with one hand by her cheek, her pacifier in place, and the funniest little top ponytail reaching up like it had its own plans.
The window was full of green, but she was the whole view. Every few minutes she looked over as if to check that everyone was still there, still hers, still ready to smile back.
